JOY RAY
spectacular bodies
Joy Ray Studio
Brewery Artwalk
Saturday October 25 & Sunday October 26
In spectacular bodies, Los Angeles artist Joy Ray presents an anatomical lesson in human feelings, plumbing the gastrointestinal tract for clues. this very second forever’s folded ridges and gumdrop shape are reminders that to be human is to be permanently sentient, desire-struck, and edible. Meanwhile, time’s material is evil, sexy, and scarab-like in the way only villains can be.
Vulnerably flipping their innards outward, these textile sculptures remind us of the consumptive dance that we cannot help but participate in. spectacular bodies asks what can be learned about survival if we twist inward to taste our life. We might just be delectable.
